Spurs Have Been Interested in the Wrong Boro Winger

It looks more and more likely that Boro will be going down to the Championship for the first time in a decade, and they will be a selling club if that comes to pass. Of course we will be linked with Stuart Downing if this occurs, as it happens just like in every transfer window. But I am thinking that we have been asking Boro for the wrong winger. There's nothing wrong with Downing, except that he disappears in big games and is way overpriced. I think that Spurs should be looking at Adam Johnson.

Johnson is a gifted left-winger, and has shown some moments of brilliance, but has found his way blocked by Downing. He has played out of position on the right-wing and still shown some moments of flash. He would be someone that Boro would want to keep, especially if to balance the books they must sell Downing. But, Johnson has shown that he can play in the Premier League, and is very young, only 21 years old. We have been linked with the Celtic winger McGeady in the past couple of days, and while he looks good in the highlight reels, I think that Johnson will be the better buy, especially if we can pry him from Boro for around 8-10 million pounds. I would think that 6 million would be a fair estimate, but I think Boro will ask for more because of his potential.

The other reason I would be nervous about McGeady is his reputation for being a bit of a hot head and having bust ups with both teammates and his manager. Harry has wanted people with fire, but I think this is too much fire for me. Johnson seems to have an even temper, and two young English wingers in he and Lennon could really be something special on the flanks in the coming years.
